Ice Watch gritting teams are in the middle of their longest period of continued activity this winter.
Unsurprisingly, sites in Scotland and the north of England are the most frequently visited – with a great deal of activity in Aberdeen, Bathgate, Glasgow and Bellshill north of the border.
Durham, Newcastle, Manchester, Blackburn, York, Harrogate and Halifax are seeing a good deal of Ice Watch action on the English side of Hadrian’s wall.
NHS sites and other blue light premises, which obviously must ensure their roads, car parks and footpaths are ice-free for patients, visitors and 999 personnel, have been receiving frequent visits.
Other institutions and businesses getting the Ice Watch treatment this winter include schools, colleges and universities, retail parks, business and industrial estates and shopping centres.
Its fleet of new gritting equipment and an enhanced salt sourcing arrangement means it is even more efficient – with more time freed up to devote to customer service.

Senior operations manager Michael Jay explained: “The winter maintenance season can be challenging. But the fact that we have such a talented and experienced team at HQ and an extensive group of superb operators servicing all our customers means we are more than meeting that challenge.
“There are still 64 potential gritting days (as of 28-2-20) left in the 2019/20 season.
“This part of the season becomes more of a mental challenge, because the mind will naturally begin to start looking forward to spring and summer and planning for that. My operations team in HQ really come into their own even more during this period and so do our operators. They show a real determination and focus to ensure that the same high levels of performance and service are maintained throughout our operation and from the beginning of the season on 1st October right through and up to and including the final day of the season on 30th April.
