Ice Watch invests in new equipment to service Metropolitan Police contract

Ice Watch has invested in a fleet of new gritting equipment after winning a contract with London’s Metropolitan police.

The role will see the Ice Watch team grit 128 locations across the capital. Its sister company Burleys has been working with the force for many years and provides grounds maintenance for hundreds of its sites in the city.

The 20 Meyer Hotshot 100HD pedestrian spreaders will enable operators to grit accurately in tight spaces such as paths. A deflector shield will stop salt being broadcast beyond the target area.

The kit can handle 70kg of salt at a time.

Ice Watch has also invested in heavier duty equipment for use on new contracts elsewhere in the UK.

One of the two high-speed TS1200 Vale trailed spreaders it has purchased, alongside a quad bike and small trailed Vale TS80 spreader, will enable it to grit a 150,000 sq m site for Case tractors in Basildon, Essex.

The high-speed spreader’s 1.2 cubic metre hopper enables the operator to administer approximately 1,500kg of salt at a sitting, while its smaller counterpart has a 400kg capacity.

The investment follows the launch of a new salt sourcing contract which enables Ice Watch to improve its customer service capability by 30 per cent and significantly reduce costs.

The deal with Seton, which sees salt delivered direct to all 105 of Ice Watch’s specialist contractors, means operations managers can spend more time overseeing contractors and ensuring their customers are satisfied, rather than managing salt deliveries.

Ice Watch, which covers the whole of mainland Britain, from Aberdeen down to the Isle of Wight and from Aberystwyth across to Lowestoft, believes it is the only winter risk management company in the UK with its own own fully qualified in-house meteorologist. It partners with the BBC’s forecaster MeteoGroup to provide a super accurate gritting and snow clearance service.
